Motorola MOTOTRBO

Motorola walkie talkies in Malaysia

Motorola is the brand I specify most, from the entry XiR C1200 to the MOTOTRBO R7 and the SLR repeaters. The company I work for is a Motorola Solutions Platinum authorised reseller for professional and commercial radio.

How I narrow it down

  • Coverage first. If staff cannot reach the basement, a better radio will not fix it. That is a repeater question.
  • Then the environment. Kitchens and wet work start at IP67, such as the R5 and XiR P6600i. Outdoors, IP55 at least.
  • Then the people. No keypad for staff who should not change channel, the slim SL2M for guest-facing staff, a display and keypad for supervisors.
  • Then the radios you already own. The dual-mode XiR C1200 and C2620, and the SLR 5300 in mixed mode, let new and old radios talk while you move to digital.

Licence and certification

MOTOTRBO portable radios such as the R5, R7 and XiR P6600i run at 4 W on UHF, above the 0.5 W line, so they need an MCMC licence. Every repeater system needs one too. I can handle the application. Whoever you buy from, ask to see the certification: selling or using uncertified equipment is an offence in Malaysia.

Common questions

Do Motorola walkie talkies need an MCMC licence?

Radios above 0.5 W need one, and MOTOTRBO portables such as the R5 run at 4 W on UHF. Any repeater system needs one too. I can handle the application.

Can new MOTOTRBO radios talk to my old analogue radios?

Often, yes. Dual-mode radios such as the XiR C1200 and C2620 work in analogue and digital, and the SLR 5300 repeater can run in mixed mode. Send me your current models and I will check.

Which Motorola radio suits a noisy floor?

Look for noise suppression. The MOTOTRBO R2 and R5 both have SINC+ noise suppression. I would still test on your floor before you order.
